आज का विश्व अनेकों – अनेक गुरुजनो से भरा पड़ा है जो हर वक़्त ज्ञान- उपदेश और शिष्यों का मार्ग दर्शन करते हैं | इसी तरह कुछ तथाकथित लोग भी हैं जो गुरु होने का ढोंग करते हैं | आज के समय मे यह तय करना मुश्किल है कि कौन सही है और कौन गलत | जो लोग सही हाथों मे पहुँच जाते हैं वह अपना जीवन संवार लेते हैं और जो गलत हाथों में चले जाते हैं वो अपना समय और धन खराब कर बैठ जाते हैं | ऐसे में एक नए साधक के लिए गुरु चुनना बहुत मुश्किल है |
ज्ञान की कोई सीमा नहीं होती मगर हर एक को अपना ज्ञान ही अंतिम बिन्दु लगता है जैसे कुंए के मेढक को कुआं ही संसार लगता है | उसने तालाब नहीं देखा और तालाब वाले का तालाब ही संसार है, उसने समुंदर नहीं देखा | हमारे यहाँ एक कहावत प्रचलित है “पानी पिये छान के गुरु करिए जान के “ मगर आज के माहौल में कुछ लोग गुरु अपने मन से नहीं बनाते, कारण वह दूसरों के कहने में आकर गुरु दीक्षा ले लेते हैं | जब कुछ हासिल नहीं होता तो गुरु को ही गलत कह देते हैं | एक फंसा होता है दूसरे को भी फंसा देते हैं | “हम लूट गए सनम अब आप भी आ जायों” | अगर इसी बात को धरातल पर देखें तो कितने लोग मिलते हैं जो दावे के साथ कह सके कि हाँ मैंने अपने गुरु जी के सानिध्य मे यह हासिल किया है | दोस्तों गुरु प्रदित विद्या कभी प्रदर्शन के लिए नहीं होती | मेरा मानना है विद्या वही जो दूसरे का जीवन संवार दे | जो आपको दूसरे पर आश्रित होने का मौका न दे, तभी किसी गुरु का दिया ज्ञान साकार है | इसलिए बहुत सोचने के बाद और अनेक ईमेल जो मिले जिनमे कई लोगों का एक ही प्रशन था कि गुरु किसे बनायें | कई नए साधकों की मनोदशा को ध्यान में रखते हुये यह विशेष उच्च कोटि की साधना विधि दी जा रही है जोकि बहुत दुर्लभ है | इसमें हम यह नहीं कहते कि आप कोई गुरु न बनायें पर यह जरूर कहते हैं कि सही बनायें | संत लोग ज्ञान और अंधकार दूर करने के लिए ही ज्ञान व दीक्षा देते हैं | उनके मन में मैंने कभी कोई लालच नहीं देखा | कई लोग कहते हैं कि गुरु को दक्षिणा देनी चाहिए | मैं कहता हूँ कि जिसने आपको इस योग्य बना दिया कि आप अपना व दूसरों के जीवन में परिवर्तन ला सकें, ऐसे महान व्यक्तित्व को आप क्या भेंट करेंगे | कहते हैं गुरु मृत्यु के देवता होते हैं | वह शिष्यों के दंभ, अहम्, अज्ञान और विकारों को मृत्यु देते हैं | जिस शिष्य में यह दोष नहीं मिटे उसके गुरु को गुरु मानना शायद उचित नहीं | क्योंकि ज्ञान की सीढ़ी यहीं से शुरू होती है | जो शिष्य गुरु तत्व का निरादर करता हो, बड़ों का सम्मान न कर पाये वो अपने गुरु का भी अनजाने में निरादर कर बैठता है | गुरु समाज में बुराई के खात्मे के लिए ही शिष्य को बागी बनाते हैं अपने स्वार्थ के लिए नहीं | इसलिए शिष्य को भी मर्यादावान होना चाहिए | अपने गुरु के सम्मान के लिए हमेशा तत्पर रहना चाहिए |

साधना
इस साधना को करने से ज्ञान मार्ग स्वयं प्रदर्शित हो जाता है | साधक को सही गुरु की शरण मिल जाती है | जो साधक गुरु बना चुके हैं उनके लिए भी यह साधना ज्ञान का नया रास्ता खोल देती है | आदि गुरु महादेव जी को नमस्कार करते हुये यह साधना इसलिए भी जरूरी है क्योंकि यह मन के भटकाव को रोक देती है, मन शांत हो सही दिशा में चल पड़ता है |
साधना सामग्री – आपके पास सफ़ेद या पीले वस्त्र होने चाहिए, आसान, पुष्प, गंगा जल या दूध मिश्रित जल, दीपक, रुई आदि धूप, शुद्ध पारद शिवलिंग या फिर नजदीक के किसी शिव मंदिर में भी पुजा की जा सकती है | भगवान शिव या अपने अपने गुरु महाराज जी का चित्र भी रख लें | भोग के लिए फल, मिठाई, मौली, वस्त्र पुजा के लिए, गुरु अर्पण के लिए अक्षत, जनेऊ, एक नारियल और 11 रुपये दक्षिणा आदि | साधक अपनी इच्छा अनुसार यथाशक्ति पूजन षोडशउपचार या पंचौपचार भी कर सकते हैं |
दिशा – उत्तर ठीक है |
आसन कोई भी ले लें |
ध्यान – हाथ में पुष्प ले गुरु का ध्यान करें अगर गुरु नहीं हैं तो भगवन शिव का गुरु रूप में ध्यान करें |
ब्रह्मानन्दं परमसुखदं केवलं ज्ञानमूर्तिम,
द्दन्द्दातीतं गगनसदृशं तत्वम्स्यादिल्क्ष्यम |
एकं नित्यं विमलमचलं सर्व्धिसाक्षिभूतम,
भावतीतं त्रिगुनरेहितं सद्गुरुं तं नमामि |
आसन के लिए बाजोट पर वस्त्र बिछा कर उसपर पारद शिवलिंग और जो भी मूर्ति अथवा चित्र हो स्थापित करें | फिर ध्यान मंत्र पढ़ते हुये पुष्प अर्पण करें | आसन के लिए एक पुष्प अर्पण करें | फिर गुरु चरणों का ध्यान करते हुये चरण धुलायें | एक आचमनी जल चढ़ाएं | फिर चन्दन गंधादि लगायें | पुष्प अर्पण करें | नैवेद्य आदि अर्पण करें | साधक चाहे तो किसी भी पुस्तक से पुजा अपनी सुविधा अनुसार मंत्रो से भी कर सकता है | जो मंत्रोउचार न कर पायें तो इसे सादे तरीके से कर लें | शिवार्पण या सद्गुरु अर्पण आदि बोल के सामग्री चढ़ा दें तो भी पूजन हो जाता है | पूजन हमेशा भाव प्रधान होता है | मैं चाहता तो यहाँ गूढ़ मंत्रो का उल्लेख भी कर सकता था | यह सभी नए और पुराने साधकों के लिए है जो पूजन विधियों से अंजान हैं | क्योंकि हर शिष्य गुरु के समक्ष एक अंजान बालक ही होता है | लिखा भी उसी पेज पर जाता है जिसपे पहले कुछ लिखा न हो | अतः आपको जो पूजन विधि उचित लगे, अपना लें | इस पूजन विधि को एक नए व अंजान साधक को ध्यान में रख कर लिखा गया है | मंत्र न्यास आदि से इस साधना को मुक्त रखा गया है ताकि नए साधक को असुविधा न हो | फिर भी आप गुरु को अपने शरीर में ध्यान करते हुए मानस पूजन आदि भी कर सकते हैं | अंत में गुरु को भोग जो भी आप घर में खीर मिठाई आदि बनाते हैं के अर्पण के बाद आचमन कराकर नारियल मौली बांध के 11 रुपए दक्षिणा के साथ चढ़ा दें | बाद में वह शिव मंदिर में अर्पण कर दें क्योंकि गुरु शिव रूप ही होते हैं |
मंत्र जप – आप निम्न मंत्र का 21 माला जप करें | जप के पश्चात “कृत्वा जपं गुरु अर्पणमस्तू” बोलते हुये हाथ पर जल लेकर गुरु चरणों में अर्पण कर दें |

Today's world is filled with countless Gurus who offer knowledge, teaching, and guidance to disciples at every moment. In the same way, there are also some self-proclaimed figures who merely pretend to be a Guru. In today's age, it is difficult to determine who is genuine and who is not. Those who end up in the right hands manage to transform their lives, while those who fall into the wrong hands end up wasting their time and money. In such a situation, choosing a Guru is very difficult for a new seeker.
Knowledge has no limit, yet everyone tends to view their own knowledge as the final word — much like a frog in a well, for whom the well itself is the entire world, having never seen a pond; and for the frog in a pond, the pond itself is the world, having never seen the ocean. We have a saying: "Strain your water before drinking, choose your Guru after knowing him" — but in today's environment, some people do not choose a Guru by their own judgment; rather, they take initiation under the influence of others' words. When they fail to attain anything, they blame the Guru himself. One person, already caught in this trap, drags another in with them — "I have already been robbed, friend, you might as well join me too." If we examine this on the ground, how many people can claim with certainty, "Yes, I have attained this in the company of my Guru"? Friends, knowledge given by a Guru is never meant for display. I believe that true knowledge is that which transforms another person's life — knowledge that doesn't leave you dependent on others — only then does a Guru's teaching truly bear fruit. So, after much thought, and having received many emails where the same question kept coming up — "whom should I make my Guru" — and keeping in mind the state of mind of many new seekers, this special, high-level sadhana method, which is quite rare, is being shared. In this, we are not saying you should not take a Guru, but we certainly say — choose the right one. Saints give knowledge and initiation purely to dispel ignorance and darkness. I have never seen any greed in their hearts. Many people say one should give dakshina (an offering) to a Guru. I say — for the one who made you capable of transforming your own life and the lives of others, what can you possibly offer such a great being? It is said that a Guru is the deity of death — he grants death to a disciple's arrogance, ego, ignorance, and impurities. If these flaws are not removed within a disciple, then perhaps it is not appropriate for them to truly regard that person as their Guru, because the ladder of knowledge begins right here. A disciple who disrespects the Guru element, who cannot honour their elders, unknowingly ends up disrespecting their own Guru as well. A Guru makes a disciple a rebel against the evils of society for that very purpose, not for any selfish reason. This is why a disciple too must maintain dignity and always remain ready to uphold their Guru's honour.

The Sadhana
Performing this sadhana reveals the path of knowledge on its own. The seeker finds refuge with the right Guru. For seekers who have already taken a Guru, this sadhana opens a new path of knowledge for them as well. Bowing to Adi Guru Mahadev ji, this sadhana is also necessary because it stops the wandering of the mind, allowing the mind to settle and move in the right direction.
Sadhana Materials — You should have white or yellow clothing, an aasan (seat), flowers, Ganga water or water mixed with milk, a lamp, cotton for incense, and a pure mercury (Parad) Shivalinga — or this worship may also be performed at a nearby Shiva temple. Keep a picture of Lord Shiva or your own Guru Maharaj ji as well. For bhog, keep fruits, sweets, mauli thread, cloth for the worship, akshat (unbroken rice) for offering to the Guru, a sacred thread (janeu), a coconut, and 11 rupees as dakshina. The seeker may, according to their own wish and capability, perform the sixteen-fold (shodash) or five-fold (panchopachar) worship.
Direction — North is suitable.
Any aasan (seat) may be used.
Dhyana (Meditation) — Take a flower in your hand and meditate upon your Guru; if you have no Guru, meditate upon Lord Shiva in the form of a Guru.
Brahmanandam Paramasukhadam Kevalam Gyaanamurtim,
Dvandvaateetam Gagansadrisham Tatvamasyaadilakshyam,
Ekam Nityam Vimalamachalam Sarvadhisaakshibhootam,
Bhaavaateetam Trigunarahitam Sadgurum Tam Namaami.
For the seat, spread cloth on a bajot (low wooden seat) and install the Parad Shivalinga along with whichever idol or picture you have. Then offer a flower while reciting the Dhyana mantra. Offer a flower for the seat. Then, meditating upon your Guru's feet, symbolically wash them. Offer a sip of water (achamani). Then apply sandalwood and similar fragrances. Offer flowers. Offer naivedya (food offering). If the seeker wishes, they may also perform the worship using mantras from any worship manual, according to their convenience. If you cannot recite the mantras, perform it in a simple manner instead. Saying "Shivarpan" or "Sadguru Arpan" while offering each item also completes the worship. Worship is always centred on devotion (bhaav), above all else. I could have included more esoteric mantras here, but this is meant for both new and experienced seekers who are unfamiliar with worship methods, because every disciple is but an unknowing child before their Guru. Writing too is always done on a page where nothing has been written before. So adopt whichever method of worship feels right to you. This worship method has been written keeping a new, unfamiliar seeker in mind. This sadhana has deliberately been kept free of mantra-nyasa and similar rituals so that a new seeker faces no difficulty. Even so, you may also perform a mental worship (manasik pujan), meditating upon the Guru within your own body. Finally, after offering bhog to the Guru — whatever kheer or sweets you make at home — offer a sip of water (achaman), tie a coconut with mauli thread, and offer it along with 11 rupees as dakshina. Afterward, offer this at a Shiva temple, since a Guru is himself a form of Shiva.
Mantra Chanting — Chant the following mantra for 21 rounds of the mala. After the chanting, say "Kritvaa Japam Guru Arpanamastu" while taking water in your hand and offering it at your Guru's feet.
