जब से इस सृष्टि की रचना हुई है पारद का वजूद तभी से इस सृष्टि में है | इस सृष्टि के कल्याण के लिए भगवान् भोलेनाथ ने अपने अंश को सृष्टि को प्रदान किया था, जिससे धरती पर जगह जगह पारे के बड़े बड़े कूप बन गए | पर यह पारद इतना शुद्ध और स्वयं सिद्ध था कि इसके सेवन से सभी प्राणी अजर अमर होने लगे तब देवताओं के अनुरोध पर भगवान शिव ने धरती पर मौजूद सारे पारे को आठ प्रकार के दोषों से दूषित कर दिया, जिन्हें पारद की आठ केचुलियाँ भी कहा जाता है और ऋषियों को इन केंचुलियों को साफ़ कर पारद को सिद्ध करने का ज्ञान भी प्रदान किया, जिसे हम सब पारद विज्ञान, रस शास्त्र के नाम से भी जानते हैं | यही पारद सिद्ध होने पर प्राणी मात्र को सभी रोगों से मुक्त कर अजर अमर बनाता है और सभी प्रकार की सिद्धियाँ भी प्रदान करता है |
आधुनिक काल में अष्ट संस्कारित पारद के द्वारा रस सिन्दूर, मकरध्वज और कई प्रकार की औषधियों का भी निर्माण किया जाता है | पारद एक जीवित धातु है और सभी धातुओं का सत्व है इसीलिए इसकी अपनी स्वयं की उर्जा होती है जोकि बहुत ज्यादा प्रबल होती है | जब हम पारद का औषध रूप में भक्षण करते हैं या किसी विग्रह के रूप में इसे धारण करते हैं तब यह सभी पाप जन्य, गृह जन्य रोगों का निवारण कर हमें रोगों से मुक्ति दिलवाता है, रोगों का शमन करता है, दुःख दारिद्य का नाश करता है | पारद विग्रह को धारण करने से और पूजन करने से मन को असीम शांति की प्राप्ति होती है और हमारा ध्यान पूरी तरह प्रभु चरणों में लगता है | हमारे शरीर का आभामंडल कई गुना बढ़ जाता है जिससे कोई भी नकारात्मक शक्ति या नकारात्मक उर्जा हमारे शरीर में प्रवेश नहीं कर पाती और हम सभी प्रकार की तांत्रिक क्रियाओं से भी सुरक्षित रहते हैं | वेदों में तो यहाँ तक लिखा गया है कि सिद्ध पारद के दर्शन मात्र से सभी तीर्थों का पुण्य प्राप्त हो जाता है और मनुष्य शिव लोक में स्थान प्राप्त करता है | एक पारद ही है जिसको सिद्ध कर लेने से सभी प्रकार की सिद्दियाँ स्वमेव प्राप्त हो जाती हैं और मनुष्य देवताओं के द्वारा भी पूजित होता है क्यूंकि ये ज्ञान देवताओं को भी अति दुर्लभ है |
सिद्ध पारद के द्वारा प्राचीन काल से ही स्वर्ण का निर्माण किया जाता रहा है | आधुनिक जगत में भी कई वैद्यों द्वारा स्वर्ण निर्माण किया गया है जिसका जीता जागता सबूत दिल्ली में मौजूद बिरला मंदिर में लिखा गया एक अभिलेख है जिसमे वैद्य किशन पाल शर्मा द्वारा बहुत सारे गण मान्य व्यक्तियों के समक्ष एक तोला पारे के द्वारा एक तोला स्वर्ण का निर्माण करके दिखाया गया था आज भी मौजूद है | पारे के बारे में जितना भी लिखा जाये उतना ही कम है | जिसके सम्पूर्ण गुण धर्मो को देवता भी नहीं समझ पाए उसे हम इतना जल्दी कैसे समझ सकते हैं, ये एक शोध का विषय है | सही गुरु के मार्गदर्शन में जितना शोध किया जायेगा उतना ही हम इसको समझ पाएंगे और अपने जीवन को सफल बना पाएंगे |

Ever since this creation came into being, mercury has existed within it. For the welfare of this creation, Lord Bholenath (Shiva) bestowed a part of himself upon creation, which is how great pools of mercury formed at various places on earth. But this mercury was so pure and inherently perfected (swayam-siddha) that through its consumption, all living beings began to become immortal and ageless. Then, at the request of the gods, Lord Shiva contaminated all the mercury present on earth with eight kinds of impurities — also called the eight "sheaths" (kenchuli) of mercury — and granted the sages the knowledge of cleansing these sheaths and perfecting (siddh) the mercury, which we all know today as the science of mercury, Rasa Shastra. This same mercury, once perfected, frees every living being from all diseases, making them ageless and immortal, and grants every kind of supernatural accomplishment (siddhi) as well.
In modern times, Rasa Sindoor, Makardhwaj, and many kinds of medicines are also prepared through eight-sacrament-purified mercury. Mercury is a living metal and the essence of all metals, which is why it carries its own energy, one that is extremely powerful. When we consume mercury in medicinal form, or wear it as an idol (vigraha), it removes diseases born of sin and of planetary affliction, freeing us from illness, pacifying disease, and destroying sorrow and poverty. By wearing and worshipping a mercury idol, the mind attains boundless peace, and our attention becomes wholly fixed at the Lord's feet. Our body's aura increases manifold, so that no negative force or negative energy can enter our body, and we remain protected from every kind of tantric activity as well. The Vedas even state that merely beholding perfected mercury grants the merit of all pilgrimages, and the person attains a place in Shiva Loka. Mercury alone is such that, once perfected, all kinds of supernatural accomplishments are attained on their own, and the person comes to be worshipped even by the gods, because this knowledge is exceedingly rare even for the gods themselves.
Gold has been produced through perfected mercury since ancient times. In the modern world too, gold has been produced by several Vaidyas (traditional physicians/alchemists), a living proof of which is an inscription present at the Birla Mandir in Delhi, where Vaidya Kishan Pal Sharma demonstrated, before many respected witnesses, the creation of one tola of gold from one tola of mercury — and this inscription still exists today. However much one writes about mercury, it is never enough. How can we so quickly understand something whose complete properties even the gods themselves could not fully grasp — this remains a subject of ongoing research. The more research is done under the guidance of a true Guru, the more we will be able to understand it and make our lives successful.
