पारद एक बहुमूल्य पदार्थ जोकि सभी धातुओं का सत्व है | सम्पूर्ण सृष्टि की रचना में इसका महत्वपूर्ण योगदान है | पारद को महादेव का अंश भी कहा जाता है | पारद जोकि कई प्रकार की आलोकिक शक्तियों का पुंज है इसके सिद्ध स्वरुप के दर्शन मात्र से प्राणियों के सभी प्रकार के पापों का अंत होता है, दुःख दरिद्रता का नाश होता है, भयंकर रोगों का नाश होता है | इसीलिए तंत्र मार्ग में भी पारद की श्रेष्ठता को स्वीकार किया गया है | पारद तंत्र को सभी तंत्रों में श्रेष्ठ माना गया है | प्राचीन काल में हमारे गुरुजन गुरुकुलों में गुरु शिष्य परम्परा के अंतर्गत इस विद्या का ज्ञान अपने शिष्यों को प्रदान करते थे | समयांतर में विदेशियों के हमलों के कारण ये परम्परा लुप्त हो गई और इतना श्रेष्ठ विज्ञान लुप्त प्रायः हो गया | रस विज्ञान के अधिकाँश ग्रन्थ नष्ट कर दिए गए | रस शास्त्र का स्वर्णिम समय उसी काल खंड में खो गया | आज के समय में मात्र कुछ गिनती के लोगों के पास इस विद्या के सूत्र बचे हैं जिनके द्वारा दोबारा से इसके उत्कर्ष की सम्भावना जागृत हुई है जिससे लगता है कि उस स्वर्णिम युग का दोबारा से आगमन होगा |

Mercury (Parad) is a precious substance — the essence of all metals — and it has played a vital role in the creation of the entire universe. Mercury is also said to be a part of Mahadev (Lord Shiva). Mercury, which is a concentration of many kinds of divine powers, ends all manner of sins in living beings through the mere sight of its perfected (siddha) form; it destroys sorrow and poverty, and it eliminates terrible diseases. This is why even the path of Tantra accepts the supremacy of mercury. Parad Tantra is considered supreme among all tantras. In ancient times, our Gurus would pass this knowledge to their disciples under the Guru-disciple tradition within the Gurukuls. Over time, due to foreign invasions, this tradition was lost, and such a great science nearly vanished. Most texts of this mercurial science (Rasa Vigyan) were destroyed. The golden age of Rasa Shastra was lost in that very period. Today, only a handful of people still hold the threads of this knowledge, through whom the possibility of its revival has once again awakened — suggesting that golden age may well return once more.
