साबर मन्त्रों के सम्बन्ध में कुछ लोग यह कहते हैं कि उन्होंने शाबर-मन्त्र ‘जप’ किया किन्तु कोई लाभ नहीं हुआ । वास्तव में ‘मन्त्र-सिद्धि’ न हो तो जप दो बार या तीन बार करना चाहिए । फिर भी मन्त्र-सिद्धि न हो तो उसके लिए अन्य कारणों को खोजना चाहिए । मन्त्र-सिद्धि न होने के बहुत से कारण हैं । एक कारण ग्रहों की दशा है । ‘ज्योतिष-विद्या’ के अनुसार ग्रहों की दशा ज्ञात करें । शाबर मन्त्र का जप किया जाए तो साधना में सिद्धि अवश्य मिलती है । जिन लोगों को मन्त्र-साधना में निष्फलता मिली है उनके लिए तो ज्योतिष विद्या का अवलम्बन उपयोगी है ही, साथ ही जो लोग मन्त्र साधना करने के लिए उत्सुक हैं वे भी ज्योतिष विद्या का अवलम्बन लेकर यदि साधना प्रारम्भ करें तो उन्हें विशेष सफलता प्राप्त हो सकती है ।
अस्तु, साधना-काल में जन्म-लग्न-चक्र के अनुसार कौन ग्रह अनुकूल है या कौन ग्रह प्रतिकूल है यह जानना बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है । साधना को यदि कर्म समझा जाए तो जन्म-चक्र का दशम स्थान उसकी सफलता या असफलता का सूचक है । प्रायः ज्योतिषी नवम-स्थान को मुख्य मानकर साधना की सिद्धि या असिद्धि या उसका बलाबल नियत करते हैं । साधना में चूँकि कर्म अभिप्रेत है अतः जन्म-चक्र का दशम स्थान का विचार उचित होगा । वैसे कुछ लोग पञ्चम स्थान को भी महत्व देते हैं । ज्योतिष के नियमानुसार साधक के जन्म-चक्र के नवम स्थान में जिस ग्रह का प्रभाव होता है वैसी ही प्रकृति वह धारण करता है । इससे यह ज्ञात होता है कि साधक की प्रकृति सात्विक होगी या राजसिक या तामसिक । जन्म चक्र में यदि गुरु, बुध, मंगल एक साथ होते हैं तो साधक सगुण उपासना में प्रवृत्त होता है । जन्म चक्र में गुरु के साथ यदि बुध है तो साधक सात्विक देवी-देवताओं की उपासना में प्रवृत्त होता है । ऐसे ही यदि दशमेश नवम स्थान में होता है तो साधक सात्विक – देवोपासक बनता है । जन्म चक्र के आधार पर सात्विक उपासना के मुख्य-मुख्य योग इस प्रकार हैं –
१॰ दशमेश उच्च हो और साथ में बुध और शुक्र हो ।
२॰ लग्नेश दशम स्थान में हो ।
३॰ दशमेश नवम स्थान में हो और पाप-दृष्टि से रहित हो ।
४॰ दशमेश दशम स्थान या केन्द्र में हो ।
५॰ दशमेश बुध हो तथा गुरु बलवान और चन्द्र तृतीय हो ।
६॰ दशमेश व लग्न की युति हो ।
७॰ दशमेश व लग्नेश का स्वामी एक ही हो ।
८॰ दशमेश यदि शनि है तो साधक तामसी बुद्धिवाला होता हुआ भी उच्च साधक व तपस्वी बनता है । यदि शनि राहु के साथ हो तो रुचि तामसिक उपासना में अधिक लगेगी ।
९॰ सूर्य, शुक्र अथवा चन्द्र यदि दशमेश हो तो जातक दूसरे की सहायता से ही उपासक बनता है ।
१०॰ पञ्चम स्थान परमात्मा से प्रेम का सूचक होता है । पञ्चम और नवम स्थान यदि शुभ लक्षणों से युक्त होते हैं तो जातक अति सफल उपासक बनता है ।
११॰ पञ्चम स्थान में पुरुष ग्रहों का यदि प्रभाव रहता है, तो जातक पुरुष देव-देवताओं का उपासक बनता है । यदि स्त्री ग्रहों का विशेष प्रभाव होता है तो जातक स्त्री-देवता या देवी की उपासना में रुचि रखता है । पञ्चम स्थान में सूर्य की स्थिति से यह ज्ञात होता है कि जातक शक्ति का कैसा उपासक बन सकता है ।
१२॰ नवम स्थान में या नवम स्थान के ऊपर मंगल की दृष्टि होती है तो जातक भगवान् शिव की उपासना करता है । कुछ लोग मंगल को हनुमान जी का स्वरुप मानते हैं । अतः इससे हनुमान् जी की उपासना बताते हैं । ऐसे ही कुछ लोगो का मत है कि गुरु-ग्रह के बल से शिव जी की उपासना में सफलता मिलती है । नवम स्थान में शनि होने से कुछ लोग तामसिक उपासनाओं में रुचि बताते हैं । नवम स्थान में शनि होने पर श्री हनुमान् जी का सफल उपासक बना जा सकता है । इस प्रकार ज्योतिष शास्त्र में उपासना सम्बन्धी अनेक योग हैं ।
शाबर मन्त्र को सिद्ध करने में कौन-कौन-से योग महतवपूर्ण हैं इससे सम्बन्धी कुछ योग इस प्रकार हैं –
१॰ नवम स्थान में शनि हो, तो साधक शाबर मन्त्र में अरुचि रखता है अथवा वह शाबर-साधना सतत नहीं करेगा । यदि वह शाबर साधना करेगा तो अन्त में उसको वैराग्य हो जाएगा ।
२॰ नवम स्थान में बुध होने से जातक को शाबर मन्त्र की सिद्धि में कठिनाइयों का सामना करना पड़ता है अथवा शाबर मन्त्र की साधना में प्रतिकूलताएँ आएँगी ।
३॰ पञ्चम स्थान के ऊपर यदि मंगल की दृष्टि हो, तो जातक कुल-देवता, कुल-देवी का उपासक होता है । पञ्चम स्थान के ऊपर गुरु की दृष्टि हो, तो साधक शाबर साधना में विशेष सफलता मिलती है । पञ्चम स्थान पर सूर्य की दृष्टि हो तो साधक सूर्य या विष्णु की उपासना में सफल होता है । यदि राहु की दृष्टि हो, तो वह भैरव उपासक बनता है । इस प्रकार के साधक को यदि पथ-निर्देशन नहीं मिलता तो वह निम्न स्तर के देवी-देवताओं की उपासना करने लगता है ।
४॰ ज्योतिष विद्या का प्रसिद्ध ग्रन्थ “जैमिनि-सूत्र” है । इसके प्रणेता महर्षि जैमिनि हैं । इस ग्रन्थ से उपासना सम्बन्धी उत्तम मार्ग-दर्शन मिलता है यथा –
क॰ सबसे अधिक अंशवाले ग्रह को आत्मा-कारक ग्रह कहते हैं । नवमांश में यदि आत्मा-कारक शुक्र हो तो जातक लक्ष्मी की साधना करता है । ऐसे जातक को लक्ष्मी देवी के मन्त्र की साधना से लाभ-ही-लाभ मिलता है ।
ख॰ नवमांश में यदि आत्मा-कारक मंगल होता है तो जातक भगवान् कार्तिकेय की उपासना से लाभान्वित होता है ।
ग॰ बुध व शनि से भगवान् विष्णु और गुरु के बलाबल से भगवान् सदा-शिव की उपासना लाभदायक होती है ।
घ॰ राहु से तामसिक देवी-देवताओं की उपासना सिद्ध होती है ।
ङ॰ शनि के उच्च-कोटि के होने पर साधक को उच्च-कोटि की सिद्धि सहज में मिलती है । इसके विपरित यदि शनि निम्न-कोटि का होता है, साधना की सिद्धि में विलम्ब होता है ।
च॰ जन्म-चक्र में यदि द्वादश स्थान में राहु होता है तो साधक परमात्मा के साक्षात्कार हेतु उत्साहित रहता है । ऐसे बन्धुओं को मन्त्र-तन्त्र-यन्त्र की सिद्धि द्वारा भौतिक लाभ-प्राप्ति से दूर रहना चाहिए क्योंकि द्वादश स्थान मोक्ष-प्राप्ति का सूचक है । द्वादश स्थान में राहु के होने से वह साधना की सिद्धि में सहायक और लाभ-प्रद रहता है ।
छ॰ दशम स्थान में यदि सूर्य हो तो साधक को भगवान् राम की उपासना करनी चाहिए और दशम स्थान में यदि चन्द्र हो तो कृष्ण की उपासना करनी चाहिए ।
ज॰ सधम स्थान में यदि गुरु हो तो साधक अन्तः-प्रेरणा या अन्तः-स्फुरण से उपासना करता है और सफल होता है ।
Regarding Sabar mantras, some people say that they chanted a Sabar mantra but received no benefit. In truth, if mantra-siddhi (accomplishment) does not occur, the chanting should be performed two or three times more. If accomplishment still doesn't occur, one should look for other reasons. There are many reasons why a mantra may not become accomplished. One reason is the position of the planets. According to the science of astrology (Jyotish Vidya), one should determine the state of one's planets. If a Sabar mantra is chanted with this knowledge, accomplishment in the sadhana is certain. For those who have faced failure in mantra sadhana, relying on astrology is certainly useful, and for those eager to begin mantra sadhana, beginning with the support of astrology can bring them special success.
Therefore, knowing which planet is favourable or unfavourable according to one's birth chart (janma-lagna-chakra) during the period of sadhana is very important. If sadhana is understood as an action (karma), the tenth house of the birth chart indicates its success or failure. Astrologers generally consider the ninth house as the primary indicator when determining the accomplishment, lack of accomplishment, or strength of a sadhana. Since sadhana implies action, considering the tenth house of the birth chart would be appropriate. Even so, some people also give importance to the fifth house. According to the rules of astrology, the nature of the seeker is shaped by whichever planet influences the ninth house of their birth chart. From this, one can determine whether the seeker's nature will be Sattvic (pure), Rajasic (passionate), or Tamasic (dark). If Jupiter (Guru), Mercury (Budh), and Mars (Mangal) are together in the birth chart, the seeker becomes inclined toward worship of a deity with form (saguna upasana). If Mercury is with Jupiter in the birth chart, the seeker becomes inclined toward worship of Sattvic deities. Similarly, if the lord of the tenth house (Dashamesh) is placed in the ninth house, the seeker becomes a Sattvic worshipper of deities. Based on the birth chart, the main combinations (yogas) for Sattvic worship are as follows —
1. The lord of the tenth house is exalted, along with Mercury and Venus.
2. The lord of the ascendant (Lagnesh) is in the tenth house.
3. The lord of the tenth house is in the ninth house and free from malefic aspects.
4. The lord of the tenth house is in the tenth house itself or in a Kendra (angular house).
5. The lord of the tenth house is Mercury, Jupiter is strong, and the Moon is in the third house.
6. There is a conjunction (yuti) between the lord of the tenth house and the ascendant.
7. The lord of the tenth house and the lord of the ascendant are the same planet.
8. If Saturn is the lord of the tenth house, the seeker, despite having a Tamasic intellect, becomes a great seeker and ascetic. If Saturn is with Rahu, their interest leans more toward Tamasic worship.
9. If the Sun, Venus, or Moon is the lord of the tenth house, the native becomes a worshipper only with another's assistance.
10. The fifth house indicates love for the Supreme. If the fifth and ninth houses carry auspicious indications, the native becomes a highly successful worshipper.
11. If the fifth house is influenced by male planets, the native becomes a worshipper of male deities. If it is significantly influenced by female planets, the native is inclined toward worship of a goddess. The Sun's position in the fifth house reveals what kind of worshipper of Shakti the native may become.
12. If Mars aspects the ninth house or is placed above it, the native worships Lord Shiva. Some consider Mars to be a form of Hanuman ji, and so this also indicates the worship of Hanuman ji. Similarly, some hold the view that success in Shiva worship comes through the strength of Jupiter. With Saturn in the ninth house, some indicate an inclination toward Tamasic worship. With Saturn in the ninth house, one can become a successful worshipper of Shri Hanuman ji. In this way, the science of astrology contains many such combinations related to worship.
Some combinations relevant to which yogas matter for perfecting a Sabar mantra are as follows —
1. If Saturn is in the ninth house, the seeker holds little interest in Sabar mantras, or will not perform Sabar sadhana consistently. If they do perform Sabar sadhana, they will eventually develop a sense of detachment (vairagya) from it.
2. With Mercury in the ninth house, the native faces difficulties in perfecting a Sabar mantra, or unfavourable circumstances arise during Sabar mantra sadhana.
3. If Mars aspects the fifth house, the native becomes a worshipper of their family deity (Kul-Devta/Kul-Devi). If Jupiter aspects the fifth house, the seeker finds special success in Sabar sadhana. If the Sun aspects the fifth house, the seeker finds success in worship of the Sun or Vishnu. If Rahu aspects it, they become a worshipper of Bhairav. If such a seeker does not receive proper guidance, they may end up worshipping lower-level deities.
4. A renowned text of astrology is the "Jaimini Sutra," composed by the sage Maharishi Jaimini. This text offers excellent guidance related to worship, such as —
a. The planet with the highest degree is called the Atma-Karaka (significator of the soul). If the Atma-Karaka in the Navamsha (a divisional chart) is Venus, the native performs sadhana of Lakshmi. Such a native gains nothing but benefit from sadhana of the Lakshmi mantra.
b. If the Atma-Karaka in the Navamsha is Mars, the native benefits from worship of Lord Kartikeya.
c. Through Mercury and Saturn, worship of Lord Vishnu is beneficial, and through the strength of Jupiter, worship of Lord Sadashiva is beneficial.
d. Through Rahu, worship of Tamasic deities becomes accomplished.
e. When Saturn is of a high order, the seeker easily attains a high level of accomplishment. Conversely, if Saturn is of a lower order, accomplishment in sadhana is delayed.
f. If Rahu is in the twelfth house of the birth chart, the seeker remains enthusiastic about a direct encounter with the Supreme. Such people should stay away from seeking material benefit through the accomplishment of mantra-tantra-yantra, because the twelfth house indicates the attainment of liberation (moksha). With Rahu in the twelfth house, it remains helpful and beneficial for accomplishment in sadhana.
g. If the Sun is in the tenth house, the seeker should worship Lord Rama, and if the Moon is in the tenth house, they should worship Krishna.
h. If Jupiter is in the tenth house, the seeker worships through inner inspiration or intuition, and succeeds.
